Everyone is different. Different methods work for different people; the following are only suggestions on improving upon your current study techniques.

The more you teach others the more you retain. Those who study with the intention to teach others retain more than those who study for themselves alone.
Reading is important but studying is deeper. Studying involves reading and finding out deeper meaning; finding out deeper layers of knowledge and research. Studying is the key! So study and study!

Don't use any substance or drug to prevent you from sleeping while reading. Also, don’t put your legs in water to prevent sleep as some people believe. If you feel sleepy, go to sleep. Obey the call of nature to avoid health implications for yourself.

Students with better study methods and strategies score higher on their exams.

It is best to review the material right after class when it's still fresh in your memory.

Don't try to do all your study the night before the test. Instead space out your studying, review class materials at least several times a week, focusing on one topic at a time.

Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks, study guides and any other relevant material.

Find a comfortable and quiet place to study with good lighting and little distractions (try avoiding your own bed; it is very tempting to just lie down and take a nap).

Start out by studying the most important information.

Learn the general concepts first, don't worry about learning the details until you have learned the main ideas.

Take notes and write down a summary of the important ideas as you read through your study material.

Take short breaks frequently. Your memory retains the information that you study at the beginning and the end better than what you study in the middle.

Space out your studying, you'll learn more by studying a little every day instead of waiting to cram at the last minute. By studying every day, the material will stay in your long-term memory but if you try to study at the last moment, the material will only reside in your short-term memory that you'll easily forget.

Make sure that you understand the material well, don't just read through the material and try to memorize everything.

If you choose to study in a group, only study with others who are serious about the test.

Test yourself or have someone test you on the material to find out what your weak and strong areas are. You can use the review questions at the end of each chapter, practice tests that the teacher may give out or other pertinent materials.

Listening to relaxing music such as classical or jazz on a low volume can relieve some of the boredom of studying.

Don't study later than the time you usually go to sleep, you may fall asleep or be tempted to go to sleep, instead try studying in the afternoon or early evening. If you are a morning person try studying in the morning.

Don't miss class. Listening to lectures and participating in discussions is much more effective than reading someone else's notes. Active participation will help you retain what your are learning.

If a concept gives you trouble, do additional reading or problem solving beyond what has been assigned. And if you still have trouble, ask for help: you surely can find friends, colleagues, or teachers who will be glad to help you learn.

Working together with friends can be valuable in helping you to solve difficult problems. However, be sure that you learn with your friends and do not become dependent on them.

When studying your text: Don't highlight – underline instead! Using a pen or pencil to underline material requires greater care than highlighting, and therefore helps to keep you alert as you study.

Anxiety can be helpful in motivating us to study and in improving performance, but very occasionally, it can lead to students feeling paralyzed and unable to perform to the best of their ability.

You will experience some anxiety when you know that you will do test/exam and this can be quite stressful, especially when you try to cram for your exams. But when you adequately study to prepare yourself beforehand, you will feel more confident about passing your test.

Test anxiety is when a student excessively worries about doing well on a test. This can become a major hindrance on test performance and cause extreme nervousness and memory lapses among other symptoms. The following are tips on reducing test/exam anxiety.

Being well prepared for the test is the best way to reduce test/exam anxiety.

Space out your studying over a few days or weeks and continually review class material. Don't try to learn everything the night before.

·          Try to maintain a positive attitude while preparing for the test/exam and during the test.

·          Exercising for a few days before the test will help reduce stress.

·          Get a good night's sleep before the test.

·          Show up to class early so you won't have to worry about being late.

·          If you begin to get nervous take a few deep breaths slowly to relax yourself and then get back to work.

·          Read the directions slowly and carefully.

·          If you don't understand the directions on the test, ask the teacher to explain it to you.

·          Skim through the test so that you have a good idea how to pace yourself.

·          Write down important formulas, facts, definitions and/or keywords in the margin first so you won't worry about forgetting them.

·          Do the simple questions first to help build up your confidence for the harder questions.

·          Don't worry about how fast other people finish their test; just concentrate on your own test.

·          If you don't know an answer to a question skip it for the time being (come back to it later if you have time), and remember that you don't have to always get every question right to do well on the test.

·          Focus on the question at hand. Don't let your mind wander on other things.

·          Try to relax before and during the exam. If you have studied effectively, you are capable of doing well. Staying relaxed will help you think clearly.

Being in a higher institution can be quite fun. It is in fact a dream come true.  However, it can be daring and wicked to those who are not lucky to have a buoyant parents or sponsors.

Lack of finance plays a major role in low grades or how else do you expect a man who has not eaten good food  to  concentrate on  his books?  Research has shown that the brain needs food to function effectively; it expends more energy and fat while reading or thinking than when engaging in physical activities

Other essentials include  textbooks, registrations, paying fees and general survival which are also hinged on having substantial amount of money.

Inadequate funds: You can start a business with a low capital of N2,000, if it requires you to borrow  you do so.
Time constraints: This is another factor to making money that hinders most undergraduates. When going into a business as an undergraduate, choose one that doesn’t require your maximum time and attention so as to give sufficient time to your academics.

You just got admission into a University  and now you are about to start the university school life.

What is campus life in Nigerian universities? What are the things you are going to face in the university? As a fresher, jambite  you need to know some things about being in the university.
Know that campus is one of the most critical places you will ever be, it’s as complex as the real world, very different from the nursery, primary and secondary school. The university shapes you into the future, you don’t want to go to the university without graduating right?
These tips  will give you the essentials of how to start life in university in Nigeria. Most of the questions freshers usually ask are:

1.       Good Accommodation:
You have to choose a good accommodation, be it in the school hostel or somewhere around school. Many new students do not know the importance of living in a good place- a place that is conducive for studying and also safe. Are you capable of living with your other colleagues in the hostel, then there is no big problem for you, but you could be the type that just wants to stay off campus then there is work for you to find a good place in your school community to live.

You have to tour around the area your school in located as early as possible so that you get the best spot for learning and a place that would be safe, because your accommodation plays a big role on your university life
.
2.        Good friends:
You are also required to find good friends in the university.  Find friends rather than friends finding you. Life in campus is quite different from life in secondary school because the friend you keep will definitely influence you somehow and many newbie would be asking, how will you know good friends from the bad ones in the university? The answer is through their dress codes, their enthusiasm and urge to attend lectures, complete their school registration on time and trying to obey rules. That’s how you know the kind of friends to keep in the university rather than associating with potential cultists and smokers.

3.        Face Your Studies Squarely:
For you to graduate successfully in a Nigerian university, you have to face your studies squarely because that is the key to success. Although some universities or university lecturers may be corrupt to the extent of sleeping with the opposite sex or collecting bribe known as “sorting” from students for them to pass, you just have to stay focus and do not let that keep you off track in school.
I have successfully shown you what is required in starting campus life in a typical Nigerian university. Now let us head into things you should avoid in order to survive in a Nigerian university.

Don’t Be Violent:
In the university, you have to calm down, even if you are a retired soldier. The university consist of many people coming from various background, so you have to calm down in order to get what you want. Even if someone is trying to deprive you of your rights, ensure you pass through the relevant authorities to get things done. University is not like a secondary school where you fight or cause trouble then your parents would be invited to school and everything goes back to normal, in the university any offence you commit would be carried all around the news agencies in town and the government would be the one to handle your case. So try to be a peaceful guy or girl while on campus.

Pray To God For Help:
There is nothing you will ask God, in patience and faith,  that he will not give you.
